Last but not least in our profile of NC Hall of Fame inductees: Charlotte's Tommy Faile. A prolific songwriter, radio and television personality, and baritone vocalist, Faile's best known for writing the 1967 hit “Phantom 309” and his recording of “The Legend of the Brown Mountain Lights.” Faile was an in-demand bassist and singer, starting out with the Hired Hands in 1949 before joining Arthur Smith and the Crackerjacks in 1951. He launched his own successful TV show in 1969, The Tommy Faile Show, which aired on Charlotte’s WBTV and made Faile a familiar personality in North Carolina. Since 1994, the NCMHOF has inducted 132 of the state's most illustrious music figures. The Hall features a museum showcasing memorabilia of its inductees.
