Mary Lattimore has made a name for herself as one of the greatest harpists in the nation, bringing the seemingly staid instrument to indie and experimental music listeners around the globe. Her mellifluous playing (on LPs for Ghostly International, Thrill Jockey, and Three Lobed) has established her as a distinctive sonic traveler in a lane all of her own. She’s collaborated with everyone from Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth and Mac McCaughan of Superchunk to Kurt Vile, Meg Baird and Bill Fay.
Originally from Asheville and raised in Western NC, in this clip Lattimore reflects how her experiences of swimming and silence in Appalachia manifest in in her playing.
