New Year, New Music! Rapper LUCI (@madeityet.luci) hails from Charlotte. After graduating from a 6-12 visual arts program, LUCI moved to Asheville, cutting her teeth in the DIY scene. Now transplanted to Brooklyn, her new record THEY SAY THEY LOVE YOU is a densely produced, darkly humorous affair, finding LUCI happy to crosspollinate genres.
THEY SAY THEY LOVE YOU cuts hip-hop beats with harsh electronic textures. As she recently told Consequence (@consequencedaily): “I used to think, ‘oh, I’m gonna do a rap album, and then I’m gonna do a folk album, but I also want to do a rock album. And I always felt like they had to be a different project.” But on THEY SAY THEY LOVE YOU, LUCI has found a way to integrate her disparate tastes and talents in order to create a unique whole.
