On January 25th, the annual African American Cultural Celebration will kick off Black History Month at the Museum of Natural Sciences (@naturalsciences) in Raleigh. A number of musical performances will occur through the day-long festivities: The award-winning Shaw University Platinum Sound Machine Marching Band (@platinumsoundmarchingband) drumline will rouse spirits at 11:30 AM as part of the opening procession in Bicentennial Plaza. The Magic of African Rhythm (@tmoar_durham), led by Liberian-American Teli Shabu, will also be singing, drumming and dancing as part of the procession. Tenor and music teacher Corey Leak will perform a rendition of the “black national anthem,” “Lift Every Voice and Sing” to conclude the procession. Leak has performed with a number of prestigious national symphonies, and for multiple NC governors.
