“There’s a river somewhere that flows through the life of everyone.” Roberta Flack: 1937-2025 Rest in peace to Roberta Flack, who passed today – all North Carolinians owe her a debt. Flack’s voice was sadly sweet like no other, and the fact that she was born in Black Mountain honors us all. She left a beautiful musical legacy, one that connected the dots between pop, R&B, and jazz seamlessly. Flack massively influenced future legends like Lauryn Hill and, by extension, whole generations of singers up to the present moment. Listen to the Roberta Flack playlist we put together when we heard the bad news and honor the NC music giant (link in bio). Image: Roberta Flack mural by artist Scott Nurkin in Black Mountain, NC.
