March is Women’s History Month, and despite their outsized role in the genesis, ascendence, and world dominance of country music, female country artists have received short shrift. In both mass media and music history, the genre continues to be defined with male figures at the center. GRAMMYs Museum curator Kelsey Goelz’s (@kelseyglz) exhibit THE POWER OF WOMEN IN COUNTRY redressed this imbalance with a needed counter-narrative, interactive displays and memorabilia – and counted Dolly Parton and LeAnn Rimes as fans.
