Pembroke, NC singer-songwriter Charly Lowry hybridizes traditions, mixing influences from 80s pop divas and rock with those from her Lumbee/Tuscarora heritage. In this reel from a 2019 performance at the Governor's Mansion, Lowry sings and plays hand-drum on her composition "Brownskin" with the backing of an electric band. Lowry once made it far into the competition on AMERICAN IDOL, but for 2025 has her sights on a possible triptych of genre records: CHARLY GOES COUNTRY / CHARLY GOES SOUL / CHARLY GOES INDIGENOUS.
