April is Autism Awareness Month, and awareness of autistic folk's existence should be a bare minimum in a just society. Neither a disease nor a superpower, autism and neurodiversity are social facts that require accommodation, love, and yes, celebration. This being said, one fun way to mark autism awareness month would be a trip to the North Carolina Symphony, which offers sensory-friendly concerts and pre-concert visits for neurodiverse visitors to prepare for performances. And did you know that because of his intense sensitivity to sound and hyper-fixations on special interests, it’s been hypothesized that Mozart was autistic? Whether or not this is true (historical diagnosis is notoriously thorny), a trip to see Mozart’s JUPITER SYMPHONY on April 22nd in New Bern would be one fine sensory-friendly outing for autism awareness: link in bio.
