The month of May is Jewish American Heritage Month, and what better way to observe it that with a little klezmer music? And when the klezmer music comes from North Carolina, all the better! Roughly translating to “tools of melody” in Yiddish, Klezmer is a primarily instrumental, dance-driven Jewish folk music. It’s played on orchestral instruments like the violin/fiddle, the accordion and sometimes the cimbalom (a stringed cousin of the dulcimer). In this reel, North Carolina’s Magnolia Klezmer Orchestra perform “Terk in America.” The Magnolia Klezmer Band performed throughout the Triangle and Triad areas of North Carolina for twenty-three years. Their unique sound came from the mingling of players with different musical backgrounds: Klezmer, Balkan, jazz, brass band, polka, and classical. #JAHM
