Six new inductees into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame (@ncmhof_museum ) have been announced: country superstar Luke Combs, CMA producer and director Robert Deaton, pedal steel virtuoso Clyde Mattocks, pioneering DJ Hattie “Chatty Hattie” Leeper, singer-songwriter David Childers, and neo-rockabilly legend Dex Romweber. The 2025 induction ceremony will be held on Thursday, October 16th at the Mooresville Performing Arts Center, with the public invited to attend. It would not be an exaggeration to say that without Dex Romweber and his rockabilly group Flat Duo Jets, rock history would be much different. An obvious blueprint for groups like The White Stripes and The Black Keys, in the early 90s Flat Duo Jets made the first serious reinvention of the raucous side of 50s rock and hard honky-tonk since The Cramps. From Chapel Hill and his homebase “The Mausoleum,” Romweber made records that were alternately heavy and heartbreaking, using minimal instrumentation to make an emotionally affecting racket. As a solo artist, Romweber continue to move crowds with his electrifying singing and guitar playing, touring with Cat Power, Southern Culture on the Skids, Neko Case, and many others.
