In the Triangle long before Superchunk, there was Rod Abernethy and there was Arrogance. Abernethy’s folky SOLO LP (1975) was produced by Arrogance’s Don Dixon, and after the two’s work together Abernathy soon joined Arrogance as lead guitarist. Abernethy recorded two LPs with the group, SUDDENLY (1980) and LIVELY (1981) before returning to his solo career. Abernethy has since gone on to become a successful composer for TV, film, and video games. His work on the later includes music for mass and cult hit games like RAGE, TERA, DEAD SPACE, and SHINOBI. In 2014 Abernethy returned to live performance, winning a number of songwriting awards and recording new albums like 2021’s NORMAL ISN'T NORMAL ANYMORE. In this reel, he performs his composition “Simple and True," which takes its setting out west in Rutherford County.
