Gaurang Doshi, a master of Indian classical music, is preserving the sacred Maihar Gharana tradition right here in North Carolina. Originally from Gujarat, India, Gaurang settled in Winston-Salem in 2006 and has become a guiding force for students learning sitar, sarod, and tabla. Rooted in the Guru Shishya Parampara, the sacred bond between teacher and student, his approach blends ancient traditions with a modern focus on community and connection. He doesn’t just teach music. He teaches purpose, humility, and the importance of sharing your gift with others. Gaurang also leads the only Indian classical music course at UNC-G, the only such class in the state, helping this vibrant tradition thrive in new generations.
