Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard, best known for his Oscar-winning track "Falling Slowly" from the film Once, has died at age 56 following a motorcycle accident in Dublin.
Emergency responders were called to the scene on Lower Road in Lucan around 4:30 AM local time. Gardaí are currently seeking witnesses as they investigate the single-vehicle crash.
Born in Dublin in 1970, Hansard began as a street busker before landing his break as Outspan Foster in the 1991 movie The Commitments. He went on to lead the Irish rock group The Frames and collaborated with Markéta Irglová in the folk duo The Swell Season. Hansard also earned a 2016 Grammy nomination for his solo folk record Didn't He Ramble.
He is survived by his wife, Maire, and their three-year-old son.
